PAS election machinery gets ready for general election

KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 (ES) – Islamic Party of Malaysia (PAS) vice-president Dato' Husam Musa, is urging all PAS leaders and members nationwide to be prepared should there be a general election soon following the crisis in Barisan National.

In his statement to Harakah, former Umno president's Tun Dr Mahathir's decision and also former vice president Tan Sri Sanusi Junid announcement to quit the party immediately has exposed a massive leadership crises in Umno.

Husam said that he expects more Umno members who cannot accept Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as their party leader and the government to leave the party en-masse.

He also added that more Umno and government leaders will join Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to express their rejection towards Dato' Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi leadership.

"Even though they've disagreed with Abdullah on so many things, they had to keep quiet because there was nobody brave enough to go against him.

"This crisis will cause Umno to be in a state of chaos and lose the people's faith to it as the lead ruling party and BN as the ruling coalition," said Husam.

He said it was not impossible in these desperate times and having limited choices for Abdullah to dissolve the parliament in order to get a new mandate. – rfa/ES
