KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 – A parliamentary select committee has proposed a RM1,000 fine each for four Umno Youth members who were involved in a fracas with DAP Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh outside the legislature earlier this year.
On February 26, the four men, incensed with the lawmaker’s statements against the youth wing of the ruling party, obstructed Karpal as he made his way in a wheelchair to enter Parliament.
Today, they were found by the select committee to have been guilty under the Houses of Parliament (Powers and Privileges) Act 1952.
The four are Umno Youth division heads Latt Sharizan Abdullah (Petaling Jaya Utara), Megat Zulkarnain Omar Din (Gombak),Azahari Shaari (Shah Alam) and Ungku Md Salleh Ungku Abd Jamal (Serdang).
The RM1,000 fine is the maximum allowed under the Act.
